Repurposed Vintage Crafts
First One!
My grandma liked to use old windows for crafting. I remember one that she helped my sister do - it had pressed flowers between the glass and a painted piece of plywood that was attached to the back of the window. It was so cute! It hung in my parents' kitchen for years.
My best friend send me a text recently with a screenshot from a Facebook Marketplace post, with some old windows for sale. She asked me if I could use any of them for wedding crafting and I instantly thought of the windows that my grandma had made. I knew I wanted to create something. She offered to buy and deliver them for me (she was going to be in the area). After I got the windows from her, I started brainstorming ideas. Little did she know that she would end up getting one of them back as a surprise gift! Recently downsized from her former employer due to COVID-19, she jumped on the opportunity to start the baking business she had always wanted. It has exploded for her, in the greatest of ways, and she is rocking it. I wanted to do something special for her, with her business logo, to decorate her home baking office and give her a "storefront window."
I sanded and varnished the window frame to help protect from loose lead paint chips, then got to work on the logo. I hand-drew her logo, while looking at the logo on her website. Using a wide vinyl stencil film adhered to the glass, I cut the logo out through the paper and the vinyl, with a precision knife. Next I used Armour Glass Etching Cream to etch the glass in the stencil. I painted a thin plywood as the backdrop, making it look like a storefront window. I had photos printed of her and her baked goods, then cut them out with a precision knife and added them to the backdrop for a personal touch.
I gifted my best friend with this window and did a wedding theme for the next one!
By the way, if you are looking for some amazing cookies, check out her website! She ships!
